- Yes, certainly on my machine a modem on COM4 wouldn't work when the
- Win95 S3 drivers were loaded. Commands could be sent *to* the modem
- (I got it to dial out) but you get nothing back. Move the modem to
- Com3, and it works fine.

- Slight twist though. I've a Stealth 64 VRAM, which at the present
- (and maybe forever?) there is no Diamond specific driver for. I was
- using the generic S3 Win95 driver. I then found an S3 964 driver
- meant for another S3 card (I forget offhand which one it was) and this
- amazingly worked fine with the Stealth, gave a slightly better
- performance (not enough to get excited about, mind) but didn't clash
- with COM4.

- I only know all this because I was using the above driver when I put
- the modem in on COM4, and had no problems. I later reinstalled Win95,
- and the driver got changed back to the generic S3. And I spent
- several hours puzzling over why my modem had stopped responding :(
