  28. Yes, certainly on my machine a modem on COM4 wouldn't work when the
  29. Win95 S3 drivers were loaded.  Commands could be sent *to* the modem
  30. (I got it to dial out) but you get nothing back.  Move the modem to
  31. Com3, and it works fine.

  33. Slight twist though.  I've a Stealth 64 VRAM, which at the present
  34. (and maybe forever?) there is no Diamond specific driver for.  I was
  35. using the generic S3 Win95 driver.  I then found an S3 964 driver
  36. meant for another S3 card (I forget offhand which one it was) and this
  37. amazingly worked fine with the Stealth, gave a slightly better
  38. performance (not enough to get excited about, mind) but didn't clash
  39. with COM4.

  41. I only know all this because I was using the above driver when I put
  42. the modem in on COM4, and had no problems.  I later reinstalled Win95,
  43. and the driver got changed back to the generic S3.  And I spent
  44. several hours puzzling over why my modem had stopped responding :(
